WHAT is FIRST Lego League?

FIRST LEGO League, or FLL, is a competition that kids all across the world can compete in. Teams build LEGO robots to complete various missions, as well as research real-world problems and create innovative solutions. Students will learn how problem solving, critical thinking, teamwork, and technical skills to prepare them for the future!

FLL is an interactive youth robotics program. Students on FLL teams will be expected to participate in both the robot side, and research project development. They will work with teammates and participate in brainstorming, discussions, and other activities organized by the coaches. FLL is not just “playing with LEGOs”. Students will get the most out of it if their parent is involved, whether as a coach, or just attending meetings when possible. We encourage parents to support their child’s interest in creativity and STEM!

More information about the FIRST LEGO League program can be found here.

  • Fun: We enjoy and celebrate what we do!

Mukwonago FLL Kickoff

Mukwonago FIRST LEGO League will kick off in August at the Mukwonago High School commons (see map below). All students interested in FLL should attend the kickoff with a parent.

At the FLL kickoff we will:

  • Cover the new season challenge and view the new game playing field

  • Talk about the innovation project:  identify a problem related to exploring the oceans, and create an innovative solution

  • Organize teams for the season and prepare for meetings

Mukwonago FLL DETAILS

  • FIRST LEGO League is open to students in grades 4-8 (ages 9-12) in the Fall of 2025.

  • Students compete in teams to build robots and create innovative solutions. Teams are typically 5-8 students, and no more than 10 students max.

  • Teams are coached by parent coaches. Each team needs at least 2 coaches - many teams have additional parents attend meetings to help out. Mukwonago HS robotics team students will mentor teams to provide robot & project help. Coaches & mentors encourage and guide the team, but the students will do the actual robot and research work.

  • All teams will compete at a Regional tournament in November. If teams do well at the Regional, they can qualify for a Sectional competition in December. At competitions, teams will present their innovative solution to judges, as well as talk about their robot and teamwork. They will also run their robot on the competition tables, trying to earn the highest score. Families and friends are encouraged to attend competitions and cheer their teams on!

  • The 2025 student participation fee has not been decided yet. Students and coaches will receive team t-shirts to wear at their 2025 competitions.

  • Meetings will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 - 7 PM at the Mukwonago High School

  • Meetings and the FLL kickoff will be held at Mukwonago High School in the Commons. Parents & students can enter through Door 4 on the North side of the building. Please see the map below. On some meeting days teams may have to meet elsewhere at Mukwonago High School, this will be communicated in advance.
