Week 3-4 Newsletter
Over these past two weeks, Team 930 has completed a lot of preparation for our first competition and various outreach events. We are so excited to watch as our robot takes shape over the rest of the build season!
CAD Subteam
Our CAD subteam created two versions of the shooter, drawings for the climber, and worked on an intake and hopper design. Later in Week Three, they were able to generate a third version of the shooter and met with the electrical team. In Week Four, the robot CAD was completed, and the subteam has been sending out parts to be fabricated.
Fabrication & Assembly subteam
Fabrication and Assembly have been busy these past few weeks. They have started to produce parts and form a rough construction of our robot. For the duration of Week Three, fabrication built and tested shooter and climber prototypes, assembled the drive base, and mounted the Oculus on Kitbot (our rookie project robot). As CAD has been pushing out more part drawings in Week Four, Fabrication has been able to create spindexer components, ground intake parts, and plan the bumpers. Also, they commenced assembly on the main robot subsystems.
Electrical subteam
During Week Three, the electrical subteam assisted in prototyping the shooter and spindexer with fabrication, along with continuing meetings with CAD. In addition, they documented rules and regulations, practiced soldering, upgraded the radio boards, and ID’d the drive base. In Week Four, the electrical students focused on fixing battery corrosion, learned the difference between AC and DC voltage, tested slip rings, and wired the drive base.
programming subteam
Programming made working subsystem simulations and implemented motors and encoders into robot code. In terms of vision elements, they tuned the positioning of the robot through VR and the shooter PIDs, and updated the Limelight and radio firmware. The following week, they created a test controller, made calculations for shooter movement, added a turret limit, and finished three autos.
business subteam
In Week Three, the Business team prepared our recruiting events: the course information nights at Mukwonago High School and Park View Middle School. Further, they updated the sponsor page on our website, drafted a thank you to Thrifty Bot and our sponsors, and started recording our FIRST impact video. During the subsequent week, this team completed planning for the drive team and robot reveal videos, started team award planning, designed a flyer for FIRST Advocacy Day, made two button ideas per student, planned for the FIRST Ladies Event, purchased our sponsor banner, and generated a list of photo requirements for competition. They are in progress with senior posts and a subteam video!
FIRST Impact subteam
FIRST Impact passed a huge milestone during Week Three by writing and submitting our Woodie Flowers essay! Moreover, they edited their FIRST Impact essay and executive summaries. Later, in the course of Week Four, they began and made significant progress on documentation work, practiced the impact presentation, updated presentation boards, and scheduled meetings with our state representatives for FIRST Advocacy Day.
Our team wrapped up build season Week Three and Four with our annual pancake Saturday! Keep checking our social media for additional updates!
