Week 5-6 Newsletter

Time flies when you are having fun. Weeks Five and Six hit us before we realized it. Our subteams were so busy working on prepping and packing for Sussex. In addition, we focused on making sure the robot was competition-ready. Because our first competition is right around the corner.

CAD Subteam

The CAD team concentrated on 3D printing final parts and developing the CAD’s material appearances. To ensure accuracy and reliability, the robot CAD was compared to the physical components for consistency. To polish off our robot, final parts were designed, including the battery plate, expandable hopper, mounting parts, and a new breaker plate. The CAD team’s attention to detail over these past two weeks has truly helped accelerate the progression of our robot.

Fabrication & Assembly subteam

On the Fabrication subteam, our students fabricated various hexshafts and lasered the updated versions of the newly designed CAD parts. Moreover, metal and polycarbonate renditions of the intake, turret, and expanding hopper were constructed, with some design changes. And as Sussex was fast approaching, fabrication also completed the bumper design, allowing for construction to begin.

Electrical subteam

Electrical had a huge win these past two weeks, as they wired the belly pan without any CAN errors on the first try! They put in a substantial amount of effort to wire the turret (Cable Chain Turret), RSL (Radio Signal Light), cameras, encoders, and intake motors. In the meantime, they worked on the CANivore, intake, fixed battery terminals, developed a plan to fix the belly pan, and organized assorted tools. Further, the electrical team assembled the power distribution lung for the Limelight so programming could work on tuning.

programming subteam

The programming subteam had a full plate of work recently. They fixed some autonomous errors and simulated the intake extension, turret aiming, camera positions, and robot shooting. They added voltage, supply, and torque inputs into the code, while also configuring the Limelight positioning. Once everything was mainly assembled on the robot, programming tuned the intaking, feeding, shooting, spindexer rotation, hood angles, and turret positioning in code. Finally, they updated the programming documentation for this year.

business subteam

Business drafted the drive team and FIRST Impact videos. They crafted numerous posts, including the FIRST Advocacy Day post, St. Patrick’s Day post, and our Senior Recognition posts, which will all be posted soon! For FIRST Ladies, our business team had a meeting with fellow FRC team Nicolet FEAR, designed a flyer, and planned the activities for our round table at the upcoming Mukwonago District event. Marketing decided on the BEARy team awards to recognize teams in a fun way at our competitions. Later, they reviewed the 2026 Business plan and finished the MROC Save the Date flyers. In addition, the buttons and FIRST Impact brochures were completed and printed. In particular, our rookies had a great time pressing our new button designs! Lastly, our pit presentation was updated for our upcoming competitions.

FIRST Impact subteam

The FIRST Impact team was able to tie up a lot of loose ends. They submitted our essay and executive summaries to the FIRST website. In addition, we participated in our second FIRST Advocacy Day, where we had twelve of our students from various subteams attend to meet with our state representatives. They worked to increase funding for FIRST Wisconsin programs. Back at our shop, our FI team polished their presentation with their branded notecards and their slick presentation boards. Additionally, these students prepared for their FIRST Impact round table discussion at Sussex, which was an excellent opportunity to share our outreach with other teams.

At Sussex, we had amazing opportunities to practice with other teams on a real field! We had no major breakages and worked on improving different aspects of our robot throughout the day. It was an excellent experience for our team--particularly our rookies--to prepare for our upcoming official competitions!
